Guild Wars Gold-Guild Wars 2 to Enter Beta Testing in 2008 |
|
Blizzard Entertainment won't be ditching the monthly subscription format for World of Warcraft -- it's making them too much money. For the competition, however, building a case against Azeroth may require a little more incentive, which helped make NCSoft's Guild Wars a surprising success that was helped by eliminating subscription fees entirely. The attitude will continue in the sequel, says an announcement in the latest issue of PC Gamer (courtesy of the Guild Wars Guru forums). Guild Wars 2 will likely arrive sometime in late 2008, but beta testing will begin earlier than that next year. For the sequel, NCSoft is eliminating the Campaign content system, as they felt it started making the game feel too bloated. There will, however, still be steady expansion packs. Buying cheaper Guild Wars is not an easy job. Linking to Guild Wars 2 will be the final expansion pack to the original, Eye of the North, which arrives on PC shelves late this year. You won't have a chance to copy and paste your Guild Wars characters into the sequel, but Hall of Monument achievements will carry over. An official announcement should be coming down the line soon. I realize that with GW2, they're fixing a lot of things that people were angry about -- IE more playable races. But I'ev worked my ass off on my GW character since this game came out. Now I feel like my workw as for nothing. I doubt I'll play this game, unless they let you carry over more than just titles. I have a lot of money stored up, and great weapons, too. Not to mention my materials. I've worked hard to save all of this stuff. If it can't be brought over, I'm probably not playing and switching to WoW for good. |
