World of Warcraft has been coming to mobile for years. Really, it has. The rumor pops up at conferences or on message boards from time to time, but the arrival of the iPhone actually makes it a real possibility. Over the last few days, a hot new rumor about to-go WoW has made the rounds. wow gold But for the first time, this rumor might actually have some teeth.
What makes me think this rumor is real? The fact that all evidence connected to it has vanished from the Internet. A YouTube video showing World of Warcraft running on the iPhone has been removed from the page.
Wait, how was WoW running on an iPhone? As a native game? No, it was running through Vollee's streaming game service, which was touted at CTIA in 2007. IGN Wireless interviewed Vollee's Julian Corbett about the streaming service and I've actually since the service in motion on a traditional mobile phone. The demo was pretty slick. Essentially, a PC game is streamed over the air and on to a mobile device that cannot actual run the game natively on its own.
Guess what else is now down? Vollee's website. What are the odds? Is Vollee being acquired by a game publisher to stream its content to the iPhone, as seen in the now-missing video? After all, Vollee has stated publicly that it can run its service on the iPhone.
Does it all add up to World of Warcraft on the iPhone? Not exactly. wow gold We could still just be talking about a pipe dream. But the iPhone is powerful enough to run a version of WoW and the network is stable enough to stream a game. So maybe we'll soon be grinding the fat loots (or whatever Wow players call it) in the near future.
